Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 and 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Rd., Flint. A private family service will be held.

“Angie was a beautiful soul that lit up the room as soon as she walked in,” said Mt. Morris Township Police Chief Michael Veach. “She had the most positive attitude of anyone I’ve ever known.”

West suffered a stroke in August 2020. Medical tests revealed she had three brain aneurysms. She underwent brain surgery in late September, but her health continued to decline.

“She went on medical leave in early August 2020, where she remained until her untimely death Jan. 19, 2021,” said POLC Labor Rep. Chris Watts. “I never worked with her, but I met her a couple times and she was just a sweetheart.”

The POLC extends our deepest condolences to Dispatcher West’s family and friends.

“We all knew that she was going through a difficult time after her surgery, but she was a very strong person and we all believed she would make it through,” Chief Veach said. “This is a devastating loss to everyone that knew her and worked with her. Everyone within the police department is deeply saddened by her passing. She will be missed!”

West worked as a Grand Blanc Township Dispatcher prior to starting her position with Mt. Morris Township in April 2018.

She is survived by her children: Miria Mathews, 18, and Jack Swayne Edmondson, 27 and her granddaughter, Natalie Marie Swayne. West was predeceased by her husband, Timothy West in 2016.

COVID-19 restrictions allow only 25 people in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
