Troy Police Sergeant loses cancer battle

With deep sadness the Police Officers Labor Council regrets to inform its members of the passing of one of its own. Troy Police Sgt. Scott T. Smith died May 9 at the age of 52 after a two-year battle with a rare cancerous brain tumor.

Visitation for Sgt. Smith is being held from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 and his funeral is Wednesday, May 15, both at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile (Shelby Township).

Sgt. Smith served the Troy Police Department 24 years. He was selected by Troy Police Department as the 2014 Command Officer of the Year. Before joining Troy Police, he worked six years with the Clawson Police Department.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl, and daughters Jordan and Sydney.
